This tour is perfect for those short on time but hungry for authentic experiences. In three days, you'll meet three of the Omo Valley's most fascinating tribes – the Hamar, Karo, and Benna – and if timing aligns, witness the unforgettable bull-jumping ceremony. Starting and ending at Jinka Airport, it's designed to fit around your wider Ethiopia trip.
Itinerary
Day 1 — Jinka Airport → Hamar Village → Turmi
Meet your guide at Jinka Airport and drive south toward Turmi, the homeland of the Hamar people. The journey takes around 2.5–3 hours through the scenic lowlands of the Omo Valley.
In the afternoon, visit a Hamar village and learn about their distinctive ochre hairstyles, traditional family compounds, and the body adornments that mark different stages of life.
Settle into your lodge in Turmi with an optional sunset walk nearby.
Overnight: Turmi
Day 2 — Turmi → Karo Village → Bull Jumping (if available)
After breakfast, drive to a Karo village perched on the cliffs above the Omo River. The Karo are famous for their striking white body paint and decorative scarification – and the views from here are stunning.
Return to Turmi for the afternoon. If a Hamar bull-jumping ceremony is scheduled, we'll attend this extraordinary rite of passage – a young man running across the backs of cattle to prove he's ready for adulthood. If no ceremony is taking place, we'll spend more time with the Hamar or visit a local market depending on the day.
Overnight: Turmi
Day 3 — Turmi → Benna Village → Jinka Airport
Depart Turmi and head back toward Jinka, stopping along the way to visit a Benna village. Closely related to the Hamar, the Benna are known for their intricate beadwork, body decorations, and welcoming nature.
Continue to Jinka Airport for your departure flight.
